For lack of money
to pay for a plate of rice and beans, a middle-aged man working with a private
waste management agency in Benin City yesterday feigned madness in a restaurant
located at the Kings Square, to the surprise of on-lookers and passers-by who
had gathered.
The man, who later
identified himself as Imafidon at the Oba Market Police Station, was reported
to have gone to the restaurant where he ordered for food and after eating the
food, he decided to leave without settling his bill, an action that did not go
down well with the restaurant’s owner.
Rather than
settling the bills, he (Imafidon) decided to play a fast one on the woman by
feigning madness, assaulting the owner of the restaurant and eating from a dust
bin.
The woman, however,
invited the policemen of Oba Police Station who subsequently arrested and took
him to the station for interrogation.
His employers were
later contacted who identified as a staffer of the waste management agency and
denied the claim that the young man was mad.
The manager said he
was shocked to hear that his worker could feign madness to evade paying for
food and pleaded for mercy on his behalf.
