The police
at the ‘B’ Division Police Station, Asaba, Delta State, have arrested an
assistant headmistress of a Primary School in Asaba (Name withheld), for
allegedly stolen toiletries and bathing soaps.
One of the
police investigating officers, who did not want her name in print, said the
school headmistress (names withheld) had been indulging in shady deals of
collecting toiletries and bathing soap from her unsuspecting students
especially during examination periods before nemesis caught up with her.
She was
said to have been arrested upon a petition written by a parent of one of the
students who deliberately refused to provide toiletries and soap during the
on-going examination; an act the suspect allegedly flogged the disobeying
student and inflicted several injuries on him.
Sources
said that the suspect had been indulging in alleged extortion and illegal
collection of money from the students since she was promoted to the position of
assistant headmistress in the last few months and in most cases, override the
decisions of the headmistress to implement her own.
Apart from
her alleged itching palms, insiders said that she was in 2003, arrested for a
similar offence by the police at the state CID but for high powered authorities
that came to her rescue.
Confirming
the arrest of the school teacher, Police Public Relations Officer in the state,
DSP Celestina Kalu, said the suspect was arrested on Tuesday in the school
after the police had received the petition adding that upon interrogation, she
confessed to the crime saying that she would be charged to court on completion
of investigation.
