Two women, Ebere Ojiakponna and Tessy Nbekwe were on Thursday charged before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stabbing their friend with a broken bottle.

Ojiakponna, 23, and Nbekwe, 23, whose addresses are unknown, are standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, assault and unlawful harm.

The prosecutor, Insp. Akeem Raji, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Aug. 27 at midnight at Obalende on Lagos Island.

He said that a fight broke out between the accused and their friend, Amaka Onu, who was stabbed with a broken bottle on the ribs in the process.

The offences, the prosecutor said, contravened Sections 170, 244 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Section 244 provides three years imprisonment for offenders.

I had the ugly experience of reading the infantile postulations of a former minister of aviation, Mr. Femi Fani –Kayode, headlined, ‘The bitter truth about the Igbo’. I wept for Nigeria as I remembered that such a character was once a member of the Federal Executive Council under Chief Olusegun Obasanjo’s presidency.

Fani – Kayode’s diatribe could be summarised in the following statements, some of which are quoted verbatim. (1(a) “I am not in this debate for fun or for political gain” (b) Fani- Kayode wrote as if he was a spoke person for the Yoruba race. (2) The outrage and condemnation that greeted the deportation of Igbo from Lagos is asinine and uninformed because Lagos belongs exclusively to the Yoruba.

(3) The Yoruba has for long been accommodating and generous to the Igbo by allowing them to come back to Lagos after the civil war and allowing them to do in Yoruba land what Yoruba have not been allowed to do in Igbo land. (4) Igbo have a domineering tendency and are not accommodating because they never had any history, monarchs or structured societies.

THOSE that call me a tribalist and an Igbo-hater are simply misguided and ignorant. Perhaps they do not know the meaning of those words or the true import of their meaning.

Those that know me well like you can confirm the fact that I am not a racist or a bigot and that I consider such sentiments as being unworthy of a man of class, good breeding and culture.

I am, however, a firm believer in the propagation of truth and I, like you, appreciate the value and importance of history. Sadly many of our Igbo brothers and sisters do not believe in that. Former Super Falcons forward, James Johnson, has made a startling revelation saying there are two hermaphrodites playing women football in Nigeria.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested one Kingsley Mudi over alleged ATM fraud. He was picked up at about 11 pm on August 2, 2013 at Fidelity Bank ATM on Airport Road, Warri, Delta State following an intelligence report.

 

At the point of arrest, 30 ATM cards of different banks with which he allegedly withdrew a total sum of five hundred and fifty thousand naira (N550, 000) were found in his possession.  Eight signed UBA cheques belonging to sundry persons were also found on him. Kingsley Mudi, who claimed to be a Disc Jockey and an operator of a barbing salon, has volunteered useful information.

He will be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.
